Using the Search Feature for finding allusions to music and songs in the text of Uncle Tom's Cabin:

1. On the Site Map, click onto Uncle Tom's Cabin--ILLUSTRATION;

2. Click onto The Text of Uncle Tom's Cabin--ILLUSTRATION;

3. Click onto Chapter 1--ILLUSTRATION;

4. Click onto Search on the spine of the "book" at the left--ILLUSTRATION;

5. This will open the Search Window. On that, click onto This Section to search the entire text of the Uncle Tom's Cabin. Tip: if you don't click This Section, you will be searching only the first chapter. Then enter the word you want to search for, like "sing," and click Search--ILLUSTRATION;

6. This will open up a page of Search Results, in this case for the 12 times the word "sing" appears in the novel--ILLUSTRATION;

7. Click onto the first hit (in Chapter 1) and you will automatically be taken to the first appearance of the word "sing" in the text. Continue scrolling to the occurrences of "sing" by clicking onto each hit--ILLUSTRATION;

8. Note that "sing" doesn't capture the words "sings" or "singing," so to search for related words, clear the form at the bottom of the Search Results page and enter another word or phrase you want to look for, like "sang," and then click Search to bring up a new list of hits--ILLUSTRATION;
