Boston Comedy Company, 1870

This is an unusual performance, in that it combines an apparently full-length version of Uncle Tom's Cabin with another play. The 6 act Aiken dramatization, the script used here, was so long that it created theater history when it premiered in 1852 by marking the first time in America an evening at the theater consisted of a single play. Presumably the Leslie's Popular Comedy Company seriously abridged Aiken's text. Blanche Slader, who plays Eva here, later became one of the most popular Topsys.
