EXCERPT. This 1914 film follows the "Tom Show" tradition of making Marks (with his mule) a major character--though it makes the pursuit of Eliza comic in ways Stowe's novel never suggests.

Omitted from the movie clip is the second half of the sequence, showing (briefly) the ferry depot on the Kentucky shore and Marks meeting the riders on Eliza's trail.
