In these two advertisements for Stetson's Double Mammouth Uncle Tom, Tom is alternately a comical grotesque (left) and a sentimental hero (right). Both posters were printed by Donaldson's Litho, Newport, Kentucky. It's possible that Stetson's used different posters in different towns, depending on which "Tom" they thought would prove most attractive to white audiences -- though it is also possible that the incompatibility of these images simply reflects the conceptual incoherence of the "Tom Show."
