As you can see from the table of contents below, this book is an eclectic collection of essays -- some
describing Brown's travels, some directed at British abolitionists. When isn't obvious, though, is how persistently the book
engages Uncle Tom's Cabin. Almost every chapter contains direct references either to Stowe or to her novel, and much of it
consists of detailed analyses of specific scenes or characters from the book. It was published anonymously; according to library
catalogues, the author was actually David Brown, but who "David Brown" was remains a mystery to me.
