[from] The Theatres.

The CHESNUT is still employed with "Uncle Tom's Cabin." The representation is now excellent. Many of the performers have improved by practice. Little Louisa Parker's Eva is much better than the promising and excellent performance of the first week of the representation. Her pathos and natural manner are quite surprising in one so young. The piece will be played every evening during this week.

. . . At the NATIONAL, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" still attracts full houses. Some alterations have been made in the cast. Mr. Olwine as George Harris is much better than Mr. Fannin was, whilst Mr. Vincent as Phineas Fletcher is inferior to Mr. Ryan. The success of Rose Merrifield as Topsey is in a fair way to spoil her. She does not perform the character with as much care as when the piece was first produced. She is giving way to exaggeration, and therefore detracts from the merits of her performance. "Uncle Tom" will be played every night this week.

SANFORD'S OPERA TROUPE are making as much out of the "Uncle Tom mania" as any other place of amusement. The representation at Sanford's is a rich picture of Southern life as it is. Those who have cried over "Uncle Tom" at the theatres should go to Sanford's and laugh at his funny representation. Crowds were attracted last week. The piece is going to do well.
