THE WHITE SLAVE; OR, MEMOIRS OF A FUGITIVE, is for sale at this office.

PETERBORO, Jan. 21, 1853.

DEAR DOUGLASS:—I have just read "The White Slave," written by Richard Hildreth of Boston. Mr. Hildreth is one of the ablest writers of our country.

I am very much pleased with this Book.—If not as highly dramatic and entertaining as "Uncle Tom's Cabin," it is, perhaps, even more philosophical and instructive. Both Books should be in every family.

Yours, &c., GERRIT SMITH.
