UNCLE TOM'S CABIN—A Boston paper says that Mrs. Stowe received from her publishers, Messrs. Jewett & Co., on the 7th inst., the sum of Ten Thousand Three Hundred Dollars, as her copyright permission on the sale of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' for three months. It is stated that this is the largest sum ever received by any author, either English or American, from the sale of a single work in so short a period. Nor is it so because her share of the profits is unusually large, but because the actual sale of the book is unprecedented. |
