Brooklyn: 1 July 1854

--Joseph K. Hayes, who was the captain of the Boston police at the time of the arrest of the fugitive Burns, and who resigned his office rather than assist in the execution of the Fugitive Slave Law, has been presented with a gold watch and chain from the ladies of Plymouth, and a salver and purse from the Bostonians, as tokens of approbation. Mrs. Stowe accompanied the gifts with a present of an illustrated copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
