You've Seen the Movie -- Now Read the Book
During the 1920s, Grosset & Dunlap made a specialty of reprinting
classic novels as Hollywood transformed them into movies. The images available here are
from the "movie edition" published to exploit the appearance
of the 1927 big budget Universal Super-Jewel production of Stowe's novel. Stills from the movie are tipped into the text. You can see any
of the images by clicking on the icons at left, where the illustrations
are in the order in which they appear in the book, along with the captions
supplied by the publishers. (Clips from the film, along with promotional and
other material about it, are available in the UTC AT THE
MOVIES section of the archive.)
