Scene summary from the
1903 Edison Catalogue: Showing the home of Ruth, the Quaker girl at the foot of the Rocky Pass.
Ruth comes out of the cottage, followed by Eliza and her child, who were conducted
to Ruth's home by Phineas after their miraculous escape across the
river. Ruth sent Phineas in search of George Harris, the husband of
Eliza, telling him that she would never marry him until he found
Harris. While Ruth is working at her spinning wheel and Eliza is
playing with her child, Phineas enters with George Harris. The child
runs to his father, and there is joy all around. Phineas, looking down
the road, discovers that they have been followed by the slave
traders, and quickly conducts Eliza, Harris and the child to a place
of safety behind some huge rocks.
